More information about Chris Bowden tickets

Chris Bowden is a saxophonist and composer known for his masterful playing and striking compositions. Whilst associated within the realms of jazz and electronic music, his work is often regarded as being uncompromising and genre-defying.

Chris Bowden’s career started to take shape in London’s 1990’s Nu Jazz and Acid Jazz scenes, his music being described as “true future jazz”. Recording and touring with the band K-Creative, signed to Gilles Peterson’s Talkin’ Loud label, he worked with the likes of Jhelisa Anderson, Mo' Wax artists, Jessica Lauren and Da Lata.

The first Chris Bowden solo album release, Time Capsule came out in 1996 on Soul Jazz Records. The album was described by The Face Magazine as "True Future Music" and "The album that connected it all" by Gilles Peterson.

In the following years Chris Bowden arranged strings for the 'Two Pages' album by 4 Hero, toured with Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Doug Carn, Two Banks of Four & James Mason, and recorded an album in South Africa, not long after apartheid fell, with the late Moses Molelekwa.

His follow up solo album, Slightly Askew, came out on Ninja Tune in 2002 with John L Walters commenting in The Guardian that the album "Goes to Infinity and beyond. The world won't sound the same again".

Chris Bowden has since worked with the Metropole Orchestra’s Jules Buckley, whose ensemble The Heritage Orchestra performed and recorded several examples of Chris’ music. He has made several recordings with his group The Tomorrow Band, opened the London Jazz Festival with a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 for Jez Nelson, and supported the Esbjorn Svensson Trio on their UK tour.

Chris Bowden is currently working with his five-piece band that perform work from across Chris Bowden’s career, including music from Time Capsule and Slightly Askew. They are due to record and release new music in the coming months and are touring in April 2025.
